India calls maritime attacks “unacceptable” while Trump points finger at Iran
India has strongly condemned recent attacks on commercial vessels in strategic shipping lanes, labelling the incidents “completely unacceptable” and calling for immediate international cooperation to secure global trade routes.
The statement from New Delhi came shortly before U.S. President Donald Trump publicly blamed Iran for orchestrating the strikes, escalating geopolitical tensions in the region.
Speaking at a press briefing, India’s Ministry of External Affairs expressed deep concern over the safety of seafaring crews and cargo. India relies heavily on these maritime corridors for its energy imports and bilateral trade.
Officials stated that ensuring freedom of navigation is vital for global economic stability. India is currently coordinating with regional partners to monitor the situation and protect its flagged vessels.
In Washington, President Trump addressed reporters regarding the escalating maritime conflict. He directly accused Iran of being behind the sophisticated operations against the commercial ships.
Trump warned that the United States would not tolerate disruptions to major oil transit chokepoints. He added that severe economic and diplomatic consequences would follow if the actions continued.
Tehran has firmly rejected the American accusations. Iranian state media released a statement calling the claims baseless propaganda designed to justify foreign military presence in the region.
International maritime agencies have urged all naval forces to exercise caution. They recommend increased security protocols for vessels operating near the affected waters.
