Salman Khan wins interim relief in defamation case

A Mumbai civil court has temporarily barred filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap from making or publishing defamatory or derogatory comments against Bollywood actor Salman Khan and his family while hearing a defamation lawsuit filed by the actor. The interim order was passed by Judge P G Bhosale in response to a suit in which Khan has sought a permanent injunction and ₹9 crore in damages.

Salman Khan’s civil suit alleges that Kashyap made a series of “scandalous, false and grossly defamatory” remarks about him and his family in numerous interviews and podcasts released between September and December 2025. These comments were broadcast on the YouTube channel “Bollywood Thikana” and other online platforms.

The court viewed several of the statements as “prima facie defamatory, derogatory, abusive and insulting in nature” and noted that they could harm Khan’s reputation and public image. It emphasised that freedom of speech and expression does not extend to defamatory, abusive or threatening language against individuals or their relatives.

Accordingly the court’s ad-interim ex-parte injunction restrains Kashyap and other defendants from making, posting, uploading, publishing, circulating, re-publishing or sharing any further defamatory or derogatory content concerning Salman Khan or his family on social media, video platforms or in interviews until they appear before the court and file their replies in the case.

The lawsuit also names several others including hosts from the channel and major social media platforms as parties to the case. Salman Khan has also sought an unconditional apology and directions for the removal of all contentious content.
